Pissed consumer is now pissed

Ok 1. When I saw my email labeling me as a pissed consumer, I thought this is the worst most unprofessional name to put on an email.

It seems like a company as large as George Power could come up with something better than pissed consumer whenever I spoke to your representative I was not pissed, but however, I do. It does kind of *** me off that you would put me in that category.

I think Ill call my lawyer tomorrow because of discrimination. Have a good day.

LOL...You came to a third party site called "pissed consumer" instead of going to the REAL Georgia Power site. Let me guess, you chose the first search result. And, no one believes that you have money for an attorney.

Original review Jun 19, 2025
Ok I've had to see my moma crying a lot lately because she's on a fixed income and it's hard for her to get money to pay on lights that gas power screwed up on there end..she was on a thing called flat rate where she paid $250 the first of every month never missing a payment until one day her power was shut off said she owed over $1300 bucks she had no idea what they was talking about so she called they told her she wasn't on flat rate they didn't tell her she had to reapply every month for it..it wasn't supposed to go up or down $250 thats it no matter how much she used.well that wasn't good enough for gas power because they made it where she's had to go on pre pay it cost a lot of money also they told her when the money run out the power goes off so what im pissed about is after the power is off and the money runs out they are still charging her..like now the power went off this morning the money run out well from the time they went off till now they have charged her minus $17.84 after the powers off now they explained to het like this its like a phone bill when the money rund out 5he phone goes off well they don't keep charging her minus this or that when her phone runs out so I say that's really screwed up to keep taking and taking people money after the powers off it's a lie they tell you about fees and taxes because they had it before the power goes off so you'll add that much money to your pre pay acct I know I've got all the screen shots on the power and I've checked it every hour to see if I was right about them adding more money it's true they keep on until like my moma set in the heat and the darkness can't open windows or doors bugs eat you alive all she can do is have a heat stroke or get really sick on her stomach she's on oxygen at night sometimes in the day like every thing else she don't qualify for portable bottles her insurance don't pay it..Medicaid and Medicare it's like that every month they change it to to fit there purpose not the people them like gas power they're not trying to help the people they're suckering them out of there money I checked the balance at 4pm I'm going to check it again I'll be willing to bet there's more money added to the minus remember it was -$17.84 powers been off since 8am it's 5pm now it'll have more shes minus on I'll post it soon as i check it and all the screen shots i got. One more thing when the power was shut off when she thought she was on flat rate they turned them off on or between the 4th and the 7th of that month she had just paid a$250 payment on the phone they didn't send her money back or applied it to her balance because she set here ten days without lights till my son got on the phone with them and somehow got the on with the stupid prepay junk..soon as I'm done here I'll go into my photos and show all the screen shots

You should read what you sign, if you can.

You will see why you were charged and how sill you you serial de ad beats sound. I think this is the part where you say "you must work for them." The losers lament.

Original review updated Jul 01, 2025

So I've already wrote a review on this junk but I've came acrossed some really scrooge like stuff because what I've found proofs ga power is scamming people..for starters prepay sucks you pay out three times more than a regular monthly bill..here's why and why I mean on pre pay when you add money 25% goes on your bill and 75% goes on your lights but here's the catch even after your lights are out they're still tacking on more money by the day with there trumped up charges they pulled out of there ... So and they say put more money on you're account why so you can take more and charge me more fake charges you know it's a scam soon as you sign up and start paying you see I did it one many years back it took me over 2 years to pay $1200 on prepaid lights and costed me over $2000 that's money I say was really hard earned money to give it away..like now the way this is going it'll take me 3 yrs to pay this that was there mistake in the first place and about $3500 the way they keep adding on this and that if you want to know what it's all about come by my house let me show you my mother's heat sick we have nobody to stay with no family plus all the meat and stuff we had in our freezer ruined over $300 worth of meat and vegetables don't expect ga power replace or pay for your loss that's not going to happen me and mom are starving now more than ever we don't have no more food at all we got to wait till the first to buy anything my mom said if we have to live under a bridge she wasn't putting another penny on these lights ever again ga power is going to be stuck with that bill they want to be stingy to needy families well I'm letting others know they to better get from ga power while they still got money and also my pre pay junk went from minus 8 something to -$39.00 it's only been 4 days this is a update I went to the store and put$68 on my lights everything I had it was $-43.00 well when I got home no power so I called it appears if you got more than a week with power they close your account without telling you anything so I'm out again $68 bucks because ga power is steady screwing me out of money like I said it was there mess up I'm having to pay for it..and one more thing they don't explain there services to you well after you get one they can shut it off or on or whatever they want without telling you anything they did me the customer service was snobby and would interrupt before you was done talking I asked for my money back they said no

If your power is shut off not only does the past bill you owe exist, but going forward you still owe what is called a monthly “basic distribution charge”. It covers your equipment, maintenance and billing.

It is around $20 to $30 depending on the company. If you left the country for 6 months and had them turn your power off, you would still owe 6 x $20 without using one kwh.

Corporate greed pretending to care

Georgia Power - Corporate greed pretending to care
Updated by user Sep 08, 2025

Now that I am off their standard bill I am seeing where they are scamming the people of GA. Our bills are going up even when our usage is down.

Something is very very wrong with their corporate greed and they do not care about their customers.

I purposely used way less electricity and my bill went up. This is NOT ok.

Updated by user Sep 08, 2025

This company is scamming the hard working people of GA and they do not care. This is a huge issue and all our bills are going up.

Even when my usage is less I am seeing my bill get higher. There is something very wrong with what is happening.

Original review Jul 31, 2025
Oh look, another utility company pretending to care while squeezing every last dollar out of you. Georgia Power hiked my flat rate by $50 a month, no email, no call, no warning.

Just surprise! You now owe more for using less. When I finally clawed my way through the hold music to a human, I asked how my usage stacked up. Turns out I was overpaying every single month.

I said, 'Shouldn't I just be on a per-usage plan?' She said, 'Yeah, probably.' I asked, 'Will it start next billing cycle?' She said yes. Guess what? Next bill: $353.90. Almost double what I was paying.

This isn't incompetence. It's a business model. And good luck reaching anyone who cares. Their customer service line might as well be a black hole—except black holes are more responsive.

When someone finally answers, you get attitude and no solutions. Georgia Power, stop pretending you're here to help. You're not. You're here to profit—quietly, aggressively, and at the expense of the people you claim to serve.

Do better?

No. Be exposed.

Every utility whether gas, electric or water has a standard monthly fee before any kilowatts, gallons or cubic feet are used. If you turned all three off yourself the three would generate about $75 to $100 a month.

Educate and invest in yourself. Learn financial literacy and accounting.

In order to operate in commerce, you must know accounting. Through accounting, a company can easily manipulate numbers which flagged their system of any error that must ne corrected immediately once you're figured out what's really going on behind the scene.

Original review Jul 28, 2025
We must unite and take a stand against GA Power. GA Power is accumulating significant expenses and transferring these costs to consumers through fees and surcharges on our electric bills.

For instance, consider the nuclear construction recovery costs. They may claim this is standard practice. We should question that assertion. If we were to pass our rent, car payments, and insurance costs to GA Power as fees, do you really believe they would accept it?

So why should we accept it when they impose it on us? The reason GA Power shifts these costs onto us is to minimize their upfront financial risk for themselves and their investors. Now, who ends up bearing the burden of these expensive projects? We, the consumers.

These expenses amount to billions of dollars and have been sanctioned by the GA Public Service Commission. The actual increase in electricity bills for GA Power customers is much greater than what was initially estimated.

Transferring these construction costs to consumers disproportionately impacts low-income families and could worsen energy poverty. I call for unity; together, we can confront GA Power.

Predatory & Abusive

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

If I could leave zero stars, I would. I just moved into a 2,300 sq ft home serviced by Georgia Power, and my electricity bill has been nearly $800/monthfor just two people living in the house.

We already keep our thermostat at 76F, were mindful of our usage, and we arent running anything excessive.

When I called customer service for help, I was told the following:

- I should keep my thermostat between 7880F at all times (in Georgia heat?!)

- I need to unplug everything from the wall if its not in use (seriously?)

- I should keep all the windows covered with blackout curtains during both summer and winter

- And that I basically need to live in the dark to lower my bill

Excuse me???

This is dystopian. I should not be expected to live like a vampire in a sweat lodge just to afford power in a home that isn't even that large.

The fact that this is considered normal by Georgia Power is beyond concerning and the best they could tell me was "keep your home at 80 degrees".

Meanwhile, friends of mine in other parts of Georgiawith bigger homes and dual AC unitsare paying 60-80% less than half of what I am through co-ops or EMCs. Georgia Power has a monopoly on certain areas, and they are abusing it with out-of-touch rate hikes and gaslighting customer service.

Horribly broken system absolutely abusing it's power and residents.

If you’re considering solar panels, hurry. The Big Beautiful Bill signed into law by the current administration in July put an end to the 30% tax credits by December 31.

Horrible Company

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I am new to Georgia, moved into my place two weeks ago. I was asked to pay two different fees including a security deposit prior to service being started.

I paid over 200 the same day they asked me, they sent me a message saying my service was scheduled to be turned on. But then sent another email saying they can't turn it on because I needed to pay. I got to them asap letting them know I paid already, and what else is needed. No apologies received, I was just told my service would be on in three business days.

Well I haven't gotten anywhere.

Now I'm asking for a letter or document stating service is on, and they won't give me that. I have never experienced such a horrible electric company.

It sounds like you have no credit or poor credit and they want a larger than what you would like to pay security deposit before they will do anything. This isn't a mystery for Sherlock Holmes.

If you have talked to them, I am sure they have told you what you need to do. After all, their reps have this same conversation over and over again every day with tens of thousands of people every week.

There you go right there, horrible customer service. Nasty company.

If a customer ask you to provide proof of what they paid for, what's the issue? Your wrong, I have a legal right !

Sorry you need a letter and don’t have a real bank account at a real bank you could walk into. If you did, they could print the ACH transaction.

Sorry you don’t qualify for a real bank account and have one of those stupid cards advertised on tv. You know, that people with poor credit use.

And btw, that SECURITY deposit won’t keep your lights on. Miss one payment and find out.

What’s a letter going to accomplish? If service isn’t on a letter won’t help. If service is on, then the situation id rectified.

Most people rarely if ever have to talk to a utility as they pay their bills on time, all of the time. Others, they believe that a harangue or sad story will be enough to over rule the computer.

The mistake is on YOUR end. Once your flat rate period ends, you will get a bill for the next year's usage based on what you used and other factors. Sounds like you got this bill but decided to keep doing the same thing which is why you were told the same thing over and over again.

It's not a matter of bad financials, it is a matter of paying for store damaged equipment and infrastructure updates. This is why your rates are going up loser. If you can't pay, have them come out and shut you down before you debt is spread to others.
